How Biscuit Books got its name

On our master’s, each cohort that joined was named after a region of the Shipping Forecast. We were Biscay, sounded poetic, slightly melancholic and atmospheric.

In the early days, a witty Irish member of our group casually referred to us all as ‘biscuits,’ and it stuck. It was funny, yes, but also oddly accurate. We were varied, handmade, and not exactly uniform, but there was something cohesive in that too.

So Biscay became Biscuit. As our practices developed and we leaned further into print, Biscuit Books felt right; familiar, unpretentious, and rooted in shared experience. A name that nods to the collective while leaving space for the personal.
